Mount Zion Church

The Mount Zion Church, nestled in Black Pond Township, has a rich history that intertwines with its cemetery. Initially known as the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church,. A Primitive Baptist Church was established on the fourth Sunday of August in 1897.

When the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church disbanded, Reverend Thomas J. Jenkins, spearheaded the foundation of Mount Zion Church. Jenkins was instrumental in selecting its name, "Mount Zion."

This name carries profound symbolism; Mount Zion is not only the southwestern and highest hill in Jerusalem, the site of King David's palace, but it also symbolically signifies the City of God, a spiritual haven.

In its earlier days, the church was sometimes referred to as Bradley Chapel, named in honor of W.C. Bradley, a prominent and influential member of the community. This reverence extended to the cemetery as well, which was also known as Bradley Graveyard, a testament to the lasting impact of W.C. Bradley's contributions to the church and the local.
